Participation of People in Community Development of Sufficiency Economy Village of Ban Klong Mai Community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province

Abstract

  This study is  Mixed Method Research with the three main objectives, i.e. i) to determine the level of participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province,   ii) to compare the level of participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province, classified by personal factors, and 3) to identify the problems and suggestions about participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, SampranDistrict, Nakhonpathom Province. The mixed method research consists of quantitative research by means of survey research. Data were collected by questionnaire.  The sample consisted 234 out of 618  heads of the family household who are living in Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province. The data for qualitative  research were collected by interviewing  key informants.The gathered data were analyzed by using statistical techniques such as  frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviation. To test the hypotheses,  t-test and F-Test (One Way Analysis of Variance) were employed. A mean difference of the pair was conducted by a Least Significant Different (LSD). The data collected from In-depth Interview were analyzed by Content Analysis technique.

The research results revealed that :
1. The overall level of participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province, was found at the high level. When considered in each aspect, it was also noted at the high levels in all aspects and the aspect that ranked the most in terms of mean score was participation in decision making.
2. A comparison of  the level of participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province, classified by personal factors and environmental factors, it was found that gender, age, level of education, and occupation had no significant differences even at 0.05 level of confidence, thus rejecting the set hypotheses. While the monthly income, length of stay in the community, status in the community and participation in groupcommunity had significant differences at 0.05 level of confidence, therefore, accepting hypotheses. 
3. The problems about the participation of people in community development of Sufficiency Economy village of Ban Klong Mai community, Sampran District, Nakhonpathom Province, revealed that obstacles or problems arising, local authorities, together with the community to solve the problems,starting from the people to share, analyze the causes of the problems and find ways to solve the problems together.
The community group activities is a public network, network group activities in the community makes it convenient to communicate, public relations, information that is useful for community development, community leaders play the supporting role in activities such as supporting expert knowledge, budget, production or work occurred.  There is also a learning network, establishment of Community Learning Center byregrouping activities as community network and good participation of citizen. These factors affecting the development of the community such as the development source of income and the development of community benefit that occur in the community and meet the community requirements.
