Abstract

ABSTRACT

The model to develop the temple management in Sangha Administration Region VI has the following objectives: 1) to study the general state of the efficient temple management development in Sangha Administration Region VI; 2) to study the theories related to the development of temple management; and 3) to propose the efficient model to develop the temple management of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region VI. The research used the mixed methods between the qualitative research and quantitative research: the qualitative research using the instruments of in-depth interview with 25 informants for the purpose of finding the guideline of the efficient model develop the temple management in Sangha Administration Region VI, the focus group with 10 experts was conducted in order to support the aforementioned model; and the quantitative research for the accurate data, using the instruments of questionnaire for the purpose of obtaining the general state of the efficient temple management development in Sangha Administration Region VI in each aspect: 1) planning; 2) organization; 3) commanding; 4) coordination; and 5) controlling. This is to obtaining the standard guideline before publishing the research.

The research showed that:

1. The general state of the efficient temple management development in Sangha Administration Region VI. The respondents said that there were a lot of problems and obstacles especially on the management structure: different opinion; lack of knowledge, skilled personnel, budget, equipment, integration; unclear role assignment which caused the misunderstanding of the assignment as well as the non-compliance of the rules resulting the obstacle of the temple development; the limited number of descendants who focus on studying more than practicing; improper behavior; and lack of efficient personnel recruitment.

2. The study the theories related to the efficient temple management development in Sangha Administration Region VI. The respondents said that 145 monks or 45.88% were 41- 50 years of age; 125 monks or 39.56% held the position of Subdictrict Dean and above, 268 monks or 84.81% graduated Bali without degree in Buddhist study ; 170 monks or 53.80% graduated general Bachelor Degree following the POCCC principle: 1) medium level of planning (x = 3.04), no development Efficient; 2) medium level of organization (x = 2.79), it may affect the management organization of the temples in the zone; 3) medium level commanding (x = 3.45);
4) medium level of coordination (x = 3.26); and 5) high level of controlling (x = 3.62). Overall development was in medium level.

3. The efficient model to develop the temple management of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region VI. The respondents said that POCCC principle led to
1) the organizational development in  accordance with the administrative structure in the act of Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand without any conflicts with the laws or disciplines; 2) section development – every section should participate in the management in order to properly work together by creating the inspiration; and
3)  personnel development – it is the main target to develop and support the leaders or abbots,  especially, to dominate Sangha orders in accordance with the disciplines, rules of Sangha Supreme  Council of Thailand, regulations of administrative principles on the good leadership resulting in the  efficient domination.
