Abstract

Abstract

    The thesis entitled “an analytical study of Buddhist principles in Anattalakkhaa Sutta” has objectively served the following purposes ; 1) to study the history and predominant Buddhist principles in Anattalakkhaa Sutta 2) to analyze the Buddhist principles in Anattalakkhaa Sutta 3) to apply the Buddhist principles found in Anattalakkhaa Sutta to the actual ways of life. The qualitative research has been carried out for the present study as well as collecting the primary data from the Tipitaka – Buddhist scriptures, a commentary, a subcommentary, a sub–subcommentary along with the secondary data from the books and research papers etc. relating to the study.

    Findings of the Study :

    Anattalakkhaa Sutta was the preaching related to the first sermon of the Buddha demonstrating in the forms of story describing. This sutta provided the ways to gain the wisdom by considering the name and form carefully under the three characteristic conditions in order to enlighten the followers about the name and form that leading to the cessation of suffering, namely, the noble path, the consequence and the supreme goal of Buddhism.  The Buddhist principles found in Anattalakkhaa Sutta has also related to other Buddhist topics. The so-called sutta has represented the ways how to overcome the suffering, for example, the deliverance of five aggregates, the cessation of five aggregates with insight wisdom in the name and form, the liberation in impermanent, suffering and soullessness as well as getting rid of the ten fetters viz. false view of individuality, doubt, adherence to rules and rituals, sensual lust, repulsion, attachment to realm of form, attachment to formless realms, conceit, distraction, ignorance and fially becoming the enlightenment one. 

    The applications of Buddhist principles found in Anattalakkhaa Sutta for the actual life were served directly to the mental calmness, overcoming the defilements that was the cause of three wrong action and the practicing of insight development as the ways leading to the apparent understanding about oneself state of mind.
