ABSTRACT

 

 

                   The purposes of this research titled “A study of the Buddhist Teachings as appeared in KhaoPradabdin Tradition of Buddhists in the territory of Muang Municipality in Nongkhai Province” by studying the principle of Buddhist teachings and moral doctrines as appeared in KhaoPradabdin Tradition of Muang Municipality of Nongkhai Province were (1) to study the concept of meritorious acts donated to the departed beings as appeared in the Buddhist Scripture of Theravada Buddhism (2) to study KhaoPradabdin tradition in the territory of Muang Municipality in Nongkhai Province (3) analytical study of the Buddhist teachings as appeared in KhaoPradabdin tradition of the Buddhists in the territory of Muang municipality in Nongkhai Province.

               The results of study were found that the meritorious acts or KhaoPradabdin tradition in Buddhism were appeared in Ti-Pitaka. They were developed from the beliefs of meritorious donation in Brahmism especially in the Srada festival that might be called, such that, the Buddhist concept was improved from the merit-making for the God to train the individuals to know how to make charity, to practice the precepts and to practice meditation instead, especially emphasizing the merit-making for the departed persons.

 

               The meritorious action donated to the departed persons of the Buddhists in the territory of Muang municipality in Nongkhai Province has been changed to be the culture of Esan people, that is, the rice distribution for meritorious action by believing that there have been a lot of the principles of the Buddha’s teachings as appeared in the rituals such as the principles of gratefulness, the Threefold trainings or the unity etc.

          The rice distribution for meritorious action of the Buddhists in the territory of Muang municipality of Nongkhai province can be used for teaching the Buddha’s teaching in 3 aspects, that is, the aspect of education is to enhance the education, the social aspect is to support people to have the unity and encourage them to culture the virtue and the spiritual aspect is to enhance people to realize of the virtue of mental development.
