Abstract

This thesis has 3 objectives which are 1) to study the principles of mindfulness (sati) in the Buddhist scriptures, 2) to study the internet deception, and
3) to apply mindfulness (sati) in preventing the internet deception. This is a documentary research by collecting the data from the Buddhist scriptures, theses, documents, books, and other resources such as news, internet. The result of this research showed that:

Mindfulness (Sati) meansthe recalling as if to recall before thinking, speaking or doing anything. It controls behaviours of the physical body, speech, and mind to walk in the right path. Sati encourages the arising of wisdom to consider before doing anything. Sati means the recklessness which is one of the profound principles in Buddhism. In addition, the mindfulness practice is also the prognosticationleading to the occurrence of Ariyamagga. Sampajañña means the awareness of which a person who thinks, speaks, and acts knows that wholesomeness or unwholesomeness by being thoroughly considerate with wisdom. It creates the restraint in oneself and principally relates to the mindfulness or sati.

For the internet deception, the researcher found that the intention was for property of the sufferer. There were deceptions such as deceptive internet auction for merchandises, usage of credit card without permission, control of the third partys modem, deception in using the website service, deceptive marketing or direct sales. The other methods of deception were, for example, seductive wedding proposal, stealthy arrogation from the western African in human rights help, invitation to process the import-export business, call-center, fraud purchase through internet, deceptive money transaction to buy products without receiving none, online Ponzi schemes, disguise call-center acting as the court official trying to get the personal information which resulted the damages in life, physical body, property, and other benefits.

In terms of applying mindfulness (sati) to prevent the internet deception, it was found that there should be some methods by using the principles of Kalamasutta, Yonisomanasikara, reasonability, fact acquisition, and Upekkha. For the application of sati in preventing the damages from the internet deception should have the following models; which are the promoting of mindfulness (sati) practice according to Buddhism, the application by plating the seed of sati to children and youth, the applications of sati by chanting and for decision-making.
