Abstract

This dissertation entitled “A Synthesis of the Middle Way in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy for using as the Business Ethics” has three objectives: 1) to analyze Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill ethics for being used as the Business ethics, 2) to analyze the Middle Way in Theravada Buddhist philosophy for being used as the Business ethics, and 3) to synthesize the Middle Way in Theravada Buddhist philosophy and Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill ethics for being used as the Business ethics. This is a documentary research.

 

        In the research, it was found the Business ethic concept aims to make the business a good business and profitable, on account of this the act of Business ethics concept is regarded as a principle for good living and a good business organization. In this research, while analyzing Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill ethic concept for being used as the Business ethics and Middle Way in Theravada Buddhist philosophy for using as the Business ethics, it showed that Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill ethical concept lays considerably great emphasis on maximum Profits for Business owner but somehow ignore the Actor and Action. For the Middle Way, the purpose of wealth is to facilitate human development through 3 stages; these are of material comfort and security, mental well-being and inner freedom.
