Abstract

                This dissertation entitled ‘Buddhist Tourism Management of Wat Phrabuddhabat,         Wat Saladaeng and Wat Phraphutthachai’ has three objectives: 1) to study the Buddhist tourist resources, 2) to study tourists’ management for the Buddhist tourist place, and 3) to study the management on the Buddhist tourist places of Wat Phrabuddhapat, Wat Saladaeng, and Wat Phrabuddhachai, in Saraburi province. This is a qualitative research done by in-depth interview including observation.

In the research, it was clearly found that the Buddhist tourist resources are mainly concerned with various Buddhist places offered by those who had strong faith in Buddhism since the past till the present through construction of permanent materials which were decorated by Thai Buddhist arts and thereby become the Thai Buddhist beautiful architectures resulting in the most important places for travelling in the present time. According to Buddhism, the travelling always refers to taking a journey to religious places including the other religious places in order to see or worship those sacred sites and Buddhist monks who are excellent in behaviours where ten kinds of making merit and Dhamma practice can be done in the forms of meditation and insight meditation and most of tourists can gain relaxation in their daily life through participation in religious rites. It can be said that in Saraburi province the Buddhist tourist sources belong to Wat Phrabuddhapat and Wat Saladaeng  and Wat Phrabuddhachai.

As far as the management on the Buddhist tourist places Wat Phrabuddhapat and Wat Saladaeng and Wat Phrabuddhachai  in Saraburi province is concerned, seven causes were found as follows: 1) there is a belief in the Buddha’s footprint, Buddhachaya and Buddhanirarogantarayajayawathnajaturadisa, 2) there is a faith in the Buddha’s footprint, Buddhachaya and Buddhanirarogantarayajayawathnajaturadisa,     3) there is  a making merit practice, 4) there is a study on the history of Buddhachaya and Buddhanirarogantarayajayawathnajaturadisa, 5) there is a participation and appreciation of local cultural activities, 6) there is a traditional worshiping activity of sacred entities,      and  7) it provides a family moment of travelling.

In this research, four kinds of the concerning the management of the Buddhist tourist places in Saraburi province was considerably proposed that there should have the promotion and sponsorship, the management of tourist places, the tourist services, the administration formation on the three Buddhist tourist management in Saraburi province wherein the cooperation from the existing sectors, private, government, community and temples is harmoniously given. The mentioned dimensions will give rise to good management and services in which the proper convenient preparation is provided through various public relationship channels. Consequently, most of tourists could expect to find their expectation while travelling to all these Buddhist tourist places and thereby contributing to the stability of people’s ways of life in terms of local politics, economics, tourism, study on arts and culture. By virtue of these ways, the Buddhist people’s mind-sets can be purified bringing about certain harmony due to their faith and belief. Furthermore, these places can serve as the centre of learning places and Dhamma practices where the taking refuge in the Triple Gems can be actualized by Thai Buddhist peoples respectively.
