Family Conflict Solution Applied From Theravada Buddhism Dhamma

Abstract

 

 

The purposes of this study are 1) to study and analyze the Thai family conflict problems ; 2) to study the present day conflicts in Thai society; 3) to study the patterns of the family conflict solution applied from Theravada Buddhism Dhamma.

The study used qualitative research. The data gathering consisted of the secondary data studied from related documents as well as research work, and the primary data collecting from Tipitaka texts, Mahachulalongkornrajvidyalaya version as well as related Buddhist Commentary, Sub-Commentary and Sub-Sub-Commentary. The Primary data also included other related Theravada Buddhist texts available. The analysis and discussion on data gathering used contextual and descriptive analysis.

The result of study found that:

1) The present day Thai families involving genetic descendents and social institution formation were divided into two main types: single families and extended families. The problems found were considered as the major type consisting of poverty, drug addiction and gambling.

      2) There were three levels of family conflicts: a) fundamental conflict on every day life; b) intermediate conflicts on finance and economy problems; c) serious conflicts on divorce and adultery that led to two important problems-family malfunction and broken home family.

 

 

 

      3) The proposed  patterns of family conflict solution by applying Theravada Buddhism Dhamma consisted of 6 patterns: (A) Preparation of physical and mental readiness being practiced among family members (b) Dhamma practice by husbands (c) Dhamma practiced by wives (d) Dhamma practiced by parents towards children(e) Dhamma practiced by children towards parents

 

            Suggestion the Dhamma to solve family conflicts that were : 1) Sense-Restraint for solving adultery conflicts; 2) The Four Noble Sentiments for solving serious conflicts; 3) Determination for solving drug addiction and gambling; 4) The Four Paths of Accomplishment for solving poverty conflicts; 5) Perfect Self-Adjustment for solving sexual conflicts
