Abstract

The thesis entitled “The Elderly Person’s Roles in Supporting Buddhist Activites: A Case Study of Lao Yaw Sub-district, Ban Hong District, Lamphun Province” aimed to study the elderly person’s roles, community leaders and abbots in supporting the Buddhist activities. The populations for data collecting were the 130 of elderly persons and aged between 60-75 years, 13 of community leaders and aged between 41-50 years, 9 of abbots and aged between 41-50 years. Questionnaires were used as the research tools to investigate the opinions of the populations. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean and standard deviation.

The elderly persons in supporting the Buddhist activities were found in the highest level on the Buddhist monk supporting such as the four requisites of monk: food, robe, habitat and medicine including others eight necessities. With regards to persuading people to visit the temples on the Buddhist holy days; the Magha Puja Day, Visakha Puja Day or the local traditions such as Loy Kratong Festival they were found at the higher to highest level followed by the General Dhamma Talk, the Dhamma Teaching on Sunday. Regards to propagating Buddhism such as the production of Dhamma on compact disc (C.D.), the Dhamma preaching at the Community Radio Station, writing the Buddhist articles in the news papers, Dhamma lecturing in the official places or in the academic institute the were found at the low level. The protection of Buddhism were found at the high level and followed by being a good Buddhist disciples through the study and practice of the Buddha’s teachings.
