Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research is of  three main purposes :- (1) to study of Ordination Ceremony in Thailand (2) to study of Ordination Ceremony  in Cambodia (3) to compare of the similarities and the difference in two countries. This research is to study the theoretical documents.

The research results showed that the beliefs of Ordination Ceremony  in both Thailand and Cambodia from the past to the present have been important by having the King as example. Before he goes to the throne must be ordained as the same at first. The difference is Cambodia has the successor who has ordained to study and take Theravada sect into Cambodia which makes changing Mahayana sect into Theravada.  The ordination pays back to parents’ gratitude which is regarded as grateful children and the ordination before marriage, the ancient peoples regarded as the significance as well, but the difference is that if someone is not yet ordained, he is called crude people. If he is ordained called mature people.

In the concepts of Thai Buddhist followers, if they have a son, when they are 20 year old or more than that, most parents will let their children become ordained as a monk approximately 7 days, 10 days and a half months, or else some one month or more than three months is referring to schedule in accordance with their faith because ordination has many advantages which is undertaken to seek the truth of life. Pursuit of life's core which creates charisma for own life and spread out their merits  to all human beings both enemies and friends there, and all are suffering, those people have been greater or more happiness. Those merits would hand them to find out their real happiness. In other word is the cessation of adhering to “Our” “Ours”.  Craving, not craving when the mind let oneself on, that is Nirvana.

In the concepts of the Cambodian base belief, the ordination popularly lead the boy to entrust at pagoda in order to let monks educate them. When the time is up, they ordain as a novice.  When they are completely 20 year old or more, they ordain as a monk by not determine definite time of ordination but is according to faith, but ordination in front of the fire is only 7 days, if more were required to re-ordain beforehand because the ordination in Buddhism must be correctly supported by Cambodia’s law. The ordination is to seek for the knowledge to be able to live together in society with morality and to create the merits for yourself and family by believing that when children ordained, his parents will be happy and help parents and relatives not fall into the hell and when the end of life will succeed happiness in heavens. The capacity of the merits, which have created, are believed that the ordination will be found the shining of life from the Triple Gems, raising life better elevated from the darkness into shining. However, the main goal of ordination is to pursuit the cessation of suffering, the everlasting end of suffering that is Nirvana.
