Today is the 9th International Conference and Cerebration of United Nations Day of Vesak by the guidance of the Supreme Sangha Council of Thailand and the support of the Royal Thai Government has also been memorized. He reminded the audience the Buddha’s crucial phrase reflecting his teaching “I’m not God-creator, not human being, but the enlightened or awaken one”. All participants have been asked to attend the seminar on different topics namely: Buddhist Wisdom and Reconciliation, Environment and Human Transformation. He added that on this auspicious occasion, the World Buddhist Center will be established at Buddhamondhon, Nakhon Pathom Province for the purposes of teaching, training and spreading the Buddha’s teachings. At the end of his speech, he encouraged all participants from 1,800 oversea and 3,000 Thai people to truly worship the Buddha by doing practice called Patibattibucha.
I’m, as the Buddhist, very pleased to attend this very special occasion because today is the day of memorizing the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away of Lord Buddha. The Day of Vesak is not only the important time for Thais but also for Buddhists around the world, so the United Nations announced it as the United Nations Day of Vesak in 1999. The Vesak Day in 2012 or 2555 B.E. is widely and specially celebrated because this time is the year of the 26th Buddhist century or 2600 of the Buddha’s Enlightenment. Besides, the cerebration has also been made on the auspicious occasions of the 80th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and the 60th Birthday of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn. At the end of her speech, she welcomed all delegates from various countries and invited all participants to follow the Buddha’s teachings by doing worships not only through general activities but also practice.
